The Hungaring is a Formula 1 racing circuit in Hungary, located at the borders of Mogyoród, about 19 kilometres from the centre of Budapest. It can be easily accessed from the motorway M3. Due to its unique position in a small valley 80 percent of the race track can be seen from any part of the grandstands. The circuit itself is regarded as challenging but also as one of the safest race tracks in Formula 1. It was Bernie Ecclestone who initiated the undertaking of holding a F1 championship behind the "iron curtain". After a remarkably short construction period of only 8 months the first race was held on March, 24, 1986. Since then, the Hungarian Grand Prix has been hosted successfully.
