Apart from the entertainment you get from the spectacular races at the Hungaroring in August the surrounding boasts ample opportunities to spend some more exciting days in Hungary. The county of Pest offers a range of historical and natural sights.

Test your own go-kart driving skills on 2,100 m2 at the Hungarokart Centre right next to the circuit. The Hungaroring Adventure Park offers learning how to drive Land Rovers and enjoying 4-wheel driving as well as quad bikes and enduro motorcycles.

Budapest can be reached within a 30 minutes drive. The capital of Hungary harbours many unique treasures such as the Parliament, the Royal Palace, the Matthias Church, The Hungarian National Gallery, The Opera, the Academy of Fine Arts and Margaret Island – one of the biggest parks in the city. The section of the Danube which is surrounded by Caste Hill and the old buildings of Pest was the first Hungarian sight to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Have a stroll along the Andrássy Avenue which is also a World Heritage Site.

 

If you are into nature and landscapes the region around the Danube Bend is the perfect place to go. Right here, were the river passes between the hills and turns towards the south, the most beautiful spots and natural attractions can be found. Take tours to the charming cities of Szentendre, Esztergom and Visegrád. With its colourful houses, narrow alleys and numerous museums this region constitutes the most frequently visited place along the Danube in Hungary. There are several sites of which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Danube Bend, especially in Visegrád: the Solomon Tower and the Upper Castle on the top of the hill. Historic attractions can be found in the centre of the town such as the Royal Palace which was built in the 14th century by King Charles Robert.

 

Aquaréna Aquapark

The greatest Aquapark in Hungary is located in Mogyoród close to the Hungaroring Formula 1 race track. It provides all day open-air experience in a beautiful environment and welcomes children and adults for an unforgettable splash. On the space of 11,5 hectares you can just relax, have fun, jump, roll and slide on 21 slides, 9 pools, sports courts and restaurants.

 

Tourists interested in history and culture are recommended to visit Gödöllő, a town located 18 kilometres east from Mogyoród and 30 kilometres north east from Budapest. The town was already mentioned in 13th century charters. The biggest baroque style castle of Hungary can be found in the city centre – the Gödöllő Royal Palace, built by Earl Antal Grassalkovich I. (1694-1771). The stunning building served as a summer residence for Franz Joseph I and Queen Elizabeth (Sissi) between 1867 and 1916 and today hosts the Queen Elizabeth exhibition. The oldest building in the town hosts the City Museum of Gödöllő.

 

The Royal Palace of Gödöllő is also part of the Sisi Road which follows various stages in the life of Elisabeth throughout Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Austria and Hungary. It leads to castles and cities which played a significant role in the life of the monarch. Places that are part of the tour in Hungary are Budapest, Matthias Church, Castle District, Gödöllő Palace, Domonyvölgy and Herend.
